Spring Cleaning Rethink

It’s spring cleaning season once again! You’re either excited or maybe even dreading the task ahead. Cleaning can be a therapeutic experience for some people. For others, yet another task that’s so big it’s stressful to even think about. Whether you’re either of these types, we wanted to offer some spring cleaning tips that may help you try a new approach to your spring cleaning.

We’re all about building lasting and healthy habits and if keeping a cleaner home is on your list, then we’re hoping some of the tips below will offer a new approach! And maybe even get you excited to wipe the slate clean!

1. PLAN IT OUT
Our favorite place to start! Making a plan will help you see the bigger picture and put the entire task into perspective. It might even seem easier to tackle! We’ve put together our own handy downloadable printables you can easily add to your planner. Stay on top of your regular cleaning for weeks and months to come!

2. PRIORITIZE TASKS
Now that you’re making a game plan, consider the next steps. Note which rooms get the most daily use. Use our Essential Home Sticker Value Pack to create a plan of attack for high traffic areas like bathrooms, kitchens, and TV rooms.

3. BREAK UP LARGER SPACES
Don't let the size of your living area hold you back! If you have a big space in your home and you’re not sure where to begin, break it up. Start in one corner and work your way around the room. If it’s a multi-use room, start with one functional area and move to the next (IE: an office, living area combo).

4. GET THE HOUSEHOLD INVOLVED
You don’t have to do it alone! Dividing and conquering will help prevent cleaning burnout. Repurpose some of our Teacher Checklist Filler Paper and create a plan that everyone can check-off when they’re finished with a set task! Maybe even add some fun stickers

5. CLEAN ROOM BY ROOM
You don’t have to do everything all at once. Take it one step at a time, even if you need to stop and leave a “to-do” for the next day. Cleaning can be exhausting, and you want to stay motivated. Use our curated Spring Cleaning Playlist to keep that pep in your step!

6. TARGET THE CLUTTER
Decluttering is a great first step before moving on to deep cleaning. Tidy up surfaces and store items not needed on a regular basis. If your stickers don’t have a home yet, we offer sticker storage options as well as pen and pencil cases to keep your planning space as neat as possible.

7. CLEAN IN 10 MINUTE INCREMENTS
No one ever said you had to do it all in one go! Breaking up the BIG clean might take some of the pressure off. If you’re someone who gets distracted easily or are just strapped for time, doing a little here and there might be your thing! Use some of our Project Filler Paper to stay on top of things between tasks. Plan in advance how much you’ll do each day.

8. REWARD YOURSELF
You’ve done it. You’ve reached the finish line! Giving yourself something to look forward to could be the motivating factor you need. We all deserve some R&R after a job well-done. Pamper yourself with our Pastel Florals Self-Care Gift Box Set and pat yourself on the back. You did it!

If you’re an avid cleaner and you already have a plan, great! If not, we hope this inspired you and that some of the above suggestions offer a jumping off point to get you into the cleaning spirit. Maybe you’ll even develop some new habits! If you end up trying out any of our tips, please share with us on social @the_happy_planner

Happy cleaning!
